Dry September,
Dry September was really strange. They used some bad language in that short story that I don't approve of. At first I didn't really get the plot and I was really confused on the characters, meaning that i wasn't really sure who was talking each time, and i was also confused on if they were white or black when they were talking. Also This short story wasn't really appropriate for our grade both aspects of the story were really harsh. To me I don't know why they even put this story from the 1930's in here when you know the author is going to use harsh language because at the time this story took place the U.S. was segregated until the 1950's. Once I saw the harsh word I knew this story was going to se it a lot and offend black people because of the use of the word.
Hey dude,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I DO NOT approve a bad language.
Peace out
Nathan
Remember that this is a word for which context matters. We want to consider why and how the word is being used, because a story that uses it casually is very different from one, like this one, using it to show the realities of racism.
